“One of my best travel experiences ever was diving with whale sharks in Cenderawasih Bay, based at KALI LEMON resort.”

The place is far and deep located inside the Marine National Park, in a very nice beach surrounded by the tropical rainforest, where we could arrive only by motor boat. Accomodations are basic, but the whole staff is wonderful, since the cook ’till the dive guides, pilots, sailors, everybody. Excellent food, and the whole place is being upgraded.

The main target has been totally accomplished – 4 dives and 1 snorkelling with the fantastic, sweet and unforgetable whale sharks, one better than other!!!

Debbie’s swimming with the Gentle Giant

We came to Indonesia all the way from South Africa specially to see the whale sharks. The journey was very long and costly to get there, but I would do it all again in a heartbeat! Swimming with the whale sharks feels like an otherworldly encounter, where these graceful creatures rise up from the depths of the ocean and calmly swim towards you in all their massive grandeur which is six or seven metres long. When there are five whale sharks in the water with you, the experience is exhilarating and surreal. I am truly humbled to have swum with the whale sharks of Cenderawasih Bay, and my soul is enriched from having this opportunity. Thank you to Andre’ for being my partner on this momentous journey that you made possible, and thank you to Bram, Yero and the attentive team at Kali Lemon. Safe travels!

In general I enjoyed couple of days at Kali Lemon to the fullest, and I hope to be able to come back one day. I can genuinely say, that was the best travel experience ever! Bram is a very nice host and the place is a paradise. Of course the room facilities were at minimum, which is not a big problem at all considering that people who come are mostly adventurous types. Maybe you could make one or two suites more comfortable with some extra facilities for couples who come on a romantic trip or even a honeymoon. Also a quick clean up maybe once in two days would be nice. The food was really good and there was plenty of it, although some more variety couldn’t hurt. One thing I really missed personally was a hot shower. During the day this outside shower wasn’t a problem, but it was too cold when we came back in the evening when the sun was already gone and people are cold from all the swimming. For the whale sharks part – no complaints there! It was really worth every penny! And you get a lot of whale shark swimming, which is not the case at other places in the world. – Elina Khamadieva
